“Make the move you believe in. Just be ready to live with it.”
Why We Have Trade Rules
Trading is one of the best parts of fantasy football. It rewards bold moves, fuels rivalries, and gives everyone another reason to explain why they are smarter than the rest of the league.
We trust owners to run their own franchises. The Commissioners are not here to protect anyone from making a bad trade. They are here to protect the League from dishonest ones.
Make the deal you believe in. Then own the result.
202.1 Trading Rights
Every owner may trade players and draft picks in an honest attempt to improve their franchise.
A trade does not need to look equal to everyone else. It only needs to be made freely, honestly, and without an agreement that damages the League.
202.2 Commissioner Trade Review
Every trade is subject to Commissioner review before it becomes final.
The review is not a vote on whether the trade is smart or evenly balanced. It confirms that the trade is legitimate, every asset is correctly listed, and both owners understand what they are agreeing to. Most trades should be approved quickly.
202.3 Trade Complaints
An owner who believes a trade threatens the integrity of the League must bring the concern to the Commissioners as soon as possible.
The Commissioners will review the complaint and decide whether any action is necessary. Most decisions end there. If the situation is unusually controversial or could create an important precedent, the Commissioners may send it to a league vote.
202.4 Draft-Pick Trade Review
Trades involving draft picks receive additional review before approval.
The Commissioners may confirm the year and round of every pick, current pick ownership, keeper-value consequences, and whether either franchise is trading away a pick it may need to retain a player. Both owners are responsible for understanding the long-term consequences, but the Commissioners may pause the trade and ask for confirmation before approving it.
202.5 Future Draft Picks
Owners may trade future draft picks as far into the future as the league platform allows. Sleeper currently permits picks three seasons in advance.
If the platform changes that limit, the League follows the new platform limit unless the owners adopt a different rule.
202.6 Draft-Pick Trade Cutoff
Trades involving draft picks must be completed at least 48 hours before the Annual Draft begins.
Draft-pick trading is closed during the draft. It reopens after the draft is complete.
202.7 In-Season Trade Deadline
The League uses the annual trade deadline established in Sleeper unless the Commissioners announce a different deadline before the season begins.
After the deadline, player trades are closed until the offseason.
202.8 Final Trades and Reversals
A processed trade is final.
The Commissioners may reverse a trade only when an obvious mistake, platform error, collusion, or another extraordinary circumstance makes reversal necessary to protect the League.
Buyer’s remorse is not an extraordinary circumstance.
One Last Thing...
You will win a few trades. You will lose a few too. The fun is pretending you knew which was which the whole time.
